I was at a restaurant one day for lunch and realized that my current position as a real estate broker isn’t much different from a waiter or waitress.  How do I know? Well, I was a waitress/bartender/server while going to college way back when.

Here’s what I noticed, the server comes to your table introduces themselves (if their good), gives you some facts about their restaurant and politely asks for a drink order up front.

What do I do know.  Introduce myself, give the client some facts about me and the real estate company and politely ask for the business.

The difference of the experience is long term vs. short term with a payment at the end of the transaction.

Hmmmm…interesting.

Now, what you do or don’t do or what you know or don’t know depends on the customers experience and what you will be paid.  Well, in real estate their is a contractual agreement, but that doesn’t mean your commission isn’t negotiable towards the end of the clients experience.  Same as a restaurant customer.  If your patrons food order isn’t just right, if you don’t refill drinks in a timely manner and if you don’t solve a problem in an acceptable manner, you may not get as good of a tip.

Okay, sometimes I do enjoy a short term relationship than a long term depending on my client.  That doesn’t mean I’m unreasonable.  But, everyone does has a better experience if everyone is getting what they want and if your engaged with pleasant reasonable people.

What does a real estate client expect from a real estate agent?

I’m really not going anywhere with this.  It’s just an observation I had about customer service vs. visitor experience.

When I was bar-tending it was more customer service. Clients stayed a little longer, wanted to talk a little more and before you know it your the amateur counselor.  Same with being a real estate agent. But still not as long.
